Step-By-Step
Archiving A Class Discussion Board
(Text version)
1. Each Blackboard class Discussion Board forum can be archived. To archive
a discussion board
- Log into the Blackboard course site as usual.
- Click on Control Panel / Discussion Board. This will display the course
site's discussion board page.
- Click on any of the existing Discussion Board forum names. This will display
the discussion for that forum.
- Click on the "Click Here For Archives" link cleverly hidden above
the "Sort By" dropdown box. This will display the Discussion Board
Archives. Any Discussion Board archives you have previously created for this
forum will be listed here.
- If you have not created any Discussion Board archives, click on the "Add
Archive" button. This will display the Add Archive form
- Type in a name for the archive in the box marked "Archive Title"
- Type in a description of the archive in the box marked "Description".
- If you do not want the archive to be available to students, uncheck the
box next to "The archive and its messages are available to students".
- Click on the "Submit" button. The archive for that forum is now
created.
- To add threads to the newly created archive, click on the "Modify"
button next to the archive name. This will display the Modify Archive page.
- The subject line for each of the threads in the forum will be listed on
the bottom of the page. Checkmark the threads you want to archive.
- Click on the "Submit" button. The treads you selected are now
archived.
- Return to the discussion forum. Note that the threads that you selected
to be archived are longer displayed.
- Click on the "Click Here For Archives" link. Note that if you
made the archives available to students they will also now have this link.
Click on the name of the archive. Note that the archived threads are displayed.
Note that no one can post a reply to an archived thread.
2. Note that instructors and TAs can also create archives for any Group Discussion
board. Students in the group cannot create discussion board archives.
