Constitution of Tufts Friends of Israel
Article I: Name
Section I. The name of this organization shall be Tufts Friends of Israel (FOI)
Article II: Purpose
Section I.Tufts Friends of Israel believes in the right of the State of Israel to exist as a sovereign state within safe and secure borders as an equal among all other states.
Section II. As a student organization we aim to:
- Educate the Tufts community about Israeli culture, society, and politics.
- Promote a strong relationship between Tufts students and the State of Israel.
- Ensure a politically pluralistic environment in our support for Israel.
- Serve as a resource for Israeli students on the Tufts campus.
- Serve as a resource for all types of Zionist education.
- Educate the Tufts community to promote acceptance of the State of Israel and to combat anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, and other forms of intimidation.
- Embrace other organizations on our campus in order to create a constructive and harmonious environment and encourage a peaceful future for all peoples of the Middle East.
Article III: Membership
Section I. Membership shall be open to any undergraduate member of the Tufts community who has paid the student activity fee. Graduate students are also invited to join.
Article IV: Meetings
Section I. Meetings will be every other week and will be run by the president.
Article V: Officers
Section I. The officers of Friends of Israel shall be the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Treasurer, Secretary, Advertising and Archives Chair, and Program Coordinator, and Campus Relations and Public Relations chair.
Section II. Each of these offices shall be filled for the entire academic year. If a student will be abroad, new elections will be held to fill his/her position.
Article VI: Duties of Officers
Section I. President
- Be the regional representative of Tufts Friend of Israel to other Israel-related organizations
- Serve as media spokesperson
- Facilitate all Friends of Israel meetings
- Oversee Friends of Israel programs
Section II. Vice President
- Serve as a resource aid for other positions
- Facilitate meetings and events in the President’s absence
- Be aware of all pertinent information in order to ensure the smooth operation of the organization
Section III. Treasurer
- Be responsible for managing the current budget for the organization
- Prepare the budget for the future
- Be responsible for providing forms and resources necessary for financial transactions
Section IV. Secretary
- Take notes at meetings
- Type up and email minutes to exec board
- Create briefings for specific events
Section V. Advertising and Archives Chair
- Make sure posters, table-tents, and other forms of advertising are disseminated and put up
- Maintain archives (briefings and posters from events, program evaluation forms, minutes from meetings)
Section VI. Program Coordinator
- preparing a weekly update of Israel-related events
- being responsible for consolidating and disseminating information
Section VII. Campus Relations and Public Relations chair
- Serving as a media spokesperson for the organization
- Promote constructive relations with other campus organizations
Article VII: Elections
Section I. Elections for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer will be held during the last full month of the spring semester. Elections will be run by the Secretary.
Section II. Elections for the remaining officers will be held during the first regular meeting of the school year.
Section III. A simple majority vote of all attending members is needed to be elected. All members of the exec board must be present.
BY LAWS
Article I: Amendments
Section I. The officers of Friends of Israel can amend the constitution at the beginning of each semester if there is unanimous agreement.
Section II. Any regular member may propose an amendment during any weekly meeting.
Section III. A vote will be held one week from the proposal.
Section VI. The amendments must be in compliance and approved by the Tufts Community Union Judiciary.
