27th January 2008
It
was the first day of cricket in 2008, hopefully the first on many more days to
come. We were able to get a reservation on one of the tennis hard courts at Cousens Gym. I had never played with taped balls before but
the idea of any form of cricket is always welcome to me. After facing the first
ball I was amazed by the pace and bounce of the ball. It was more like a
kookaburra cricket ball that fizzes past the nose. The bounce wasn’t that
great but hey, if one is prepared to bend his back, he can certainly put the
batsman in quite a bit of discomfort.
We
played four a side, 8 over games. Although the first game was
over in a flash (similar to the 20-20 fixture between Ind
Vs Aus, 1st Feb ‘08) the second game had a nail biting finish.
With 7 runs to get of the last over, there was some furious fast bowling and
some big swishing of the bat. Unfortunately the pressure had its toll on the
batsman (unfortunately that was me) and the bowler walked away with the honours.
Next match. This time the tables were turned. We batted
first and put up a handsome total on the board. This match had to be settled by
the Duckworth-Lewis method. Hey, wait now. I am not
going to let out all the thrills of the game. Come and find out yourself at Cousens Gym every Sunday at 2 pm.

We Came - We Saw - We Kicked The Ass
The headlines says it all.
After the mind rattling defeat last week - We had a chat, We
had a Vat, We came back with a bang ... and the poor bas... Mansfield11
were destined to be the cricket field casualities of
the day.
We lost the toss to be inserted in and ISATCC bowlers
fired today. Tone was set by Nitin's cracker of an
over - 1st over 1st ball - opening batsman out caught behind by an excellent
take by Arvind and ball after next the batsman was shown
the doors to the pavilion by an sharp catch by Aaditya
at short covers. Fielders backed the bowlers and captain on field. Noteble mention would be Parag's
reflex throw back to keeper to effect an excellent run
out. There were a couple of lapses with easy chances going down - but come
on - We are human too ;).
ISATCC started it inning with shwashbuckling
Arvind and Captain Nitin
who promoted himself up the order to take the bull by it horns. After his short
but energetic stay, yours truly arrived. Arvind and Myself consolidated and put ISATCC
on the road to victory. After the fall of Arvind's
wicket ISATCC had its share of jitters with fall
of 2 quick wickets in the form of Aaditya and Amit. Ritwik joined myself and we got ISATCC to the
brink of victory. 3 runs to win from 3 overs
with myself getting out caught, Govind and Ritwik saw us through with 2 overs
to spare with Ritwik hitting the match winning
boundary.
Thus, ISATCC gets back to it winning ways taking the series on tour to 4-2

ISATCC Juggernaut brought to
grinding halt by Lord Baron
ISATCC running high on the 3 match winning streak was beaten 2-0 by Lord Baron. It did take some splendid effort by Lord Baron to bring us down. First time in the season on tour ISATCC bowlers failed to deliver - This sums up our performance today. ISATCC can take solace from the fact that we did miss some of our key players. Lord Baron reinforced their bowling this time with some new players and came out with their guns blazing to make us taste defeat first time in the season.

Monday, April 26, 2004 ISAT-CC began the cricketing season for 2004 with a bang winning the 2 match series 2-0. The victory was punctuated by excellent fast bowling and sane batting display. In cricekt the saying goes "The fast bowlers hunt in pairs" but ISAT-CC performance forced it to be rephrased to say " Fast bowlers hunt in quartets". With Shaun Nitin Pollock, Irfan Hirthik Pathan, Shane Abhay Bond and Andrew Amit Flintoff steaming in with their tails up and the ball thudding in to the wicket keepers hands poor HBS batsmen had no clue. Match 1 (15 overs a side) - Summary Match 2 (12 overs a side) - Summary Rudyard Kipling once said " Strength of the wolf is the pack and Strength of the pack is the Wolf". ISAT-CC performance was a reflection of this statement. It was Team ISAT that won with excellent bowling performance with every bowler chipping in with great backing up on field by the fielders and some sane batting. Quotable Quotes - :) Yours truly,
Monday May 10 2004 Team ISAT clinches a nail biter against Lord Baron Do saal pehley IDRF 6 a side tournament mein yahi team ney ISAT ki ley li thi. This time story turned out to be tad bit different. Team ISAT who went in to the match as the under dogs, Lord Barons (LB) ki aisey li ki - revenge would be an gross understatement - yehi chand lafz merey is aaj ki tazaa kabhar ki prerna hai. Team ISAT won the toss and sticking to the plan of playing to its strength chose to insert the opposition in to bat. No surprises from there on - The bowlers smoked. Shaun Nitin Pollock sticking to McGrath type immaculate line provided the initial breakthrough. Shane Abhay Bond with a fiery spell of fast bowling had the Lord Baron furniture dislodged on a regular basis. Andrew Amit Flintoff with some intelligent pace bowling proved to a thorn in Lord Baron's ass. LB top order collapsed under pressure by some excellent fast bowling and sharp and aggressive fielding. Extras outscored the the runs made by bat and LB put up a fighting total of 70 runs to win with the help of some lower order resistance. Jacques Arvind Kallis and Mark Purav Waugh opened the innings and Arvind got ISAT to a flying start. We seemed much on our way towards victory. After Arvind's wicket, yours truly made to field and after that due to some excellent bowling combined with rain and lack of innovative batsmanship resulted in some very tight overs causing the run rate to drop drastically. It then took some fine batting performance by Andrew Amit Flintoff and Saurav Aditya Ganguly to see us through when we needed 20 runs of 5 overs. Phew !!! it was close one running right down to the wire. Again this was a TEAM ISAT victory, where every player did his bit in adverse weather conditions against a better-rated opposition to outplay them in every aspect of the game. ...... and thus the ISAT juggernaut keeps rolling .... 3-nil for the season on tour. Match
