The Honorable Uffe Ellemann-Jensen is a Member of Folketinget for Venstre (the Liberal Party), and is President for the European Liberal Party ("ELDR") and Vice-President for the Liberal International. He served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1982 to 1993. He is the author of a number of books on politics and economics.

Mr. Ellemann-Jensen was born in 1941 in Haarby on Funen. He holds the degree of Cand. Polit (Economics) from the University of Copenhagen. He worked as a journalist, and business editor for the daily Berlingske Aftenavis, and was economic and political commentator for national Danish TV from 1970 to 1975. He was Editor-in-Chief of the business daily “Borsen” in 1975-76. 

Mr. Ellemann-Jensen was elected to Folketinget (the Danish Parliament) for the Liberal Party ("Venstre") in 1977. From 1978 to 1982, he was the political spokesman of the Liberal Party. 

Mr. Ellemann-Jensen is President for European Liberal Party (ELDR), and Vice-president for the Liberal International. He is Chairman of the Foreign Policy Society in Denmark, President of the Baltic Development Forum, Member of the International Commission on Missing Persons (the Dole-Commission), and of the board of trustees of the International Crisis Group. He is a non-executive member of the boards of directors in a number of Danish and international companies, including Royal Greenland A/S (Chairman since 1999), Foss A/S (Deputy Chairman since 1998), Thorkild Kristensen Properties A/S, House of Prince Riga Ltd., Estonian Air Ltd., and a number of companies in the A. P. Moller Group in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Germany. 

Mr. Ellemann-Jensen received the Robert Schuman Prize in 1987, and the Hansa Prize in 1992. 

Mr. Ellemann-Jensen is married to Alice Vestergaard, former Editor-in-Chief, TV-2, Denmark. He has 4 children.
