Application Guidelines

The Borghesani Memorial Prize Application is due in the
International Relations Program Office (Cabot 605, x7-2776) on
March 3, 2008 by 4pm. (*Extended deadline)Eligibility Guidelines:
- Second semester sophomores and juniors with a minimum
GPA of 2.8 or above are eligible.
- Preference is given to U.S. citizens, but students of
any nationality are urged to apply.
- Students in all majors and departments may apply,
provided that proposals have a strong international
component.
- Applications must be submitted to the IR Program Office
by the above deadline.
- Proposals must reflect the spirit of the award.
Application Materials:
A complete prize application includes the following materials:
- Application Cover Sheet:
Please attach all materials to this form.
- Project Proposal (2 pages maximum):
A brief description of the project, activity or plan of study
that you would undertake if awarded the prize. Please include
where your project would take place, what time frame the project
would entail, and the thematic focus of your project.
- Personal Statement (2 pages maximum):
A brief statement on how your work on this project would meet
the aims of this award. Please address the following questions:
How would this project broaden your knowledge, increase your
understanding of self and others, and enable you to better
contribute to the Tufts community and to the larger world
community? How would your academic and personal background,
experience, and studies relate to the implementation of this
project? Furthermore, if you have previous travel experience,
how would this project represent a different challenge from your
other abroad experiences?
- Budget Statement:
A summary of the project's total anticipated cost, including a
list of additional funding sources you anticipate applying
toward this project.
- Resume:
A resume which outlines your work experience, previous
international travel, and a brief description of your
contributions to the Tufts community outside the classroom.
- Letter of Recommendation:
A brief letter from a faculty member or employer familiar with
your past academic and extracurricular activities as well as
your proposed project, activity or plan of study.
- Unofficial Transcript:
Please print a copy of your transcript from SIS.
Prize winners will be announced at the April 2008 University
Awards ceremony. Award recipient(s) will be required to present
a report on the results of their activity at the following
year's Borghesani Prize Colloquium. This presentation may take
the form of a written report, an oral discussion or other media
presentation, but audio/visual supplements to any presentation
are encouraged and appreciated.
