Old Curriculum Historical Course Listing
Below is a list of all courses Tufts has offered that complete the IR
Program requirements from Fall 2005 through Fall 2008. They
are split into four sections:
- Core Requirements
The IR Major requires a
Common Core of Knowledge for all
students, covering such central fields of study as political
science, economics, history, sociology, anthropology,
philosophy, and language and culture. This Core allows the
flexibility to explore common themes from these different
disciplinary perspectives.
- Thematic Concentration Requirement
The IR Major requires that you complete an in-depth
study of some substantive area of international relations
that combines different disciplines (a "Thematic Concentration").
- Seminar Requirement
The IR program requires completion of an approved
international relations seminar or research alternative from
one of the many constituent departments.
- Language Requirement
Students of international relations must have oral and
written proficiency in at least one other language besides
their native tongue. Thorough language study is an essential
tool for developing cultural literacy and sensitivity which
are vital to today's world. Superior language ability is a
very important goal of the IR major.
