Career Development: Tufts Career Services


Career Services in Dowling Hall offers an array of resources including career counselors, workshops and seminars, online databases, and a library with significant holdings.

The IR Program works closely with Career Services to generate workshops and materials targeted at international careers. Whether your thinking about careers is in the most formative stages or you want specific insights about select employers, Career Services can help. Make an appointment with a career counselor and keep an eye out for upcoming workshops.

  • Career Fields in International Affairs by APSIA: Contains detailed descriptions of 30 career paths in international affairs, including information about specific jobs, expected salaries, qualifications needed, and lists of specific employers and online resources. These documents were modified by the Tufts International Relations Program from their original versions, published by the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA).

  • International Affairs Virtual Networking Forum: This innovative forum ran over two weeks in November 2008. It brought students and alumni together to discuss topics such as how Tufts shaped their careers, advice in breaking into the fields of human rights and development abroad, insights on the Fulbright and Foreign Service programs, among others.   • Internships: Get help with starting your internship search, search internship listings, learn more about funding and housing opportunities, and get academic credit for your internship.
     
  • Graduate Schools: Applying to graduate school is a daunting process, whether you’re finishing your undergraduate degree or working full-time. This site offers general information to help you get started.
     
  • Job Postings: Search job postings, learn about campus recruiting programs, and find other resources for looking for jobs.
     
  • Resume Tips: Tips on how to write an effective resume, including guidelines on style, dos and don’ts, and sample resumes.
     
  • Cover Letter Tips: Advice on how to market yourself effectively through a cover letter, and other types of correspondence.
     
  • Interview Tips: Watch an interactive video with advice on interviewing, including tips on what interviewers look for and different kinds of questions you might be asked.

  • Career Network: a tool for students and alumni seeking career related information, insight, and advice. Members of the Network – alumni, parents, and friends – have agreed to share information about their careers, educational backgrounds, organizations, and job search techniques. This is a valuable resource for networking within the diverse Tufts community, be sure to check it out.
     
  • Career Connect: Students and alumni use Career Connect to enter and update their profiles and to search internship and job listings, and to submit resumes to employers participating in our Campus Recruiting Program. These organizations visit campus throughout the year to interview students for jobs after graduation, and in some cases, for summer internships. Check Tufts Career Connect often; new internships and jobs are posted daily.
     
  • Going Global: The Going Global Guides are information-packed e-books written for individuals seeking work outside of their home country.  The guides offer profiles of 26 countries.
     
  • Opportunities in Public Affairs: Opportunities in Public Affairs lists jobs and internships in public affairs and media; government affairs, legislative and public policy; as well as on Capitol Hill.
