Travel Information:
Documents Needed For Travel pertaining to your particular visa category:

If you are Studying at Tufts in F-1 Status, you will need:
- Your I-20 form recently signed by the International Center (signed within
the last six months);
- A passport valid at least 6 months beyond the validity date of your Form
I-20 (as listed on #5 of I-20);
If you are needing to extend or apply for a new visa stamp in your passport at
a U.S. Embassy, you must also carry proof of the financial documentation listed
on your I-20 form. Be prepared for delays in scheduling an in-person interview.
A $100 fee must also be paid prior to your appointment. Check with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate
for details.
If you are working at Tufts in Post-Completion Practical Training Status,
you will need:
- A recently signed I-20 Form from the academic institution which issued you
practical training status;
- A valid Employment Authorization Document;
- A passport valid at least 6 months beyond the validity date of your Employment
Authorization Document;
- Your most recent three paycheck stubs;
- Please Note: A valid F-1 visa stamp in your passport is still necessary
to re-enter the U.S., even when you are in F-1 Post-Completion Practical Training
status and have a valid Employment Authorization Document.
If you are needing to extend or apply for a new visa stamp in your passport at
a U.S. Embassy, you must also carry proof of the financial documentation listed
on your I-20 form. Be prepared for delays in scheduling an in-person interview.

If you are a J-1 Exchange Student, you will need:
- A recently signed Form DS-2019 (signed within the past 6 months);
- If you are working at Tufts on J-1 Academic Training Status, you will need
to have the academic institution which issued you the J-1 document sign your
Form DS-2019;
- A passport valid at least 6 months beyond the validity date of #3 of your
Form DS-2019.
If you are needing to extend or apply for a new J-1 visa stamp in your passport
at a U.S. Embassy, you must also carry proof of the financial documentation listed
on #5 of your Form DS-2019. Be prepared for delays in scheduling an in-person interview.

If you are a J-1 Exchange Research Scholar (not student), you will
need:
- A recent signature from the International Center (signed within the past
6 months) on Form DS-2019;
- A letter from your Tufts department verifying your affiliation with Tufts
University;
- A passport valid at least 6 months beyond the validity date of #3 of your
DS-2019 form.
If you are needing to extend or apply for a new J-1 visa stamp in your passport
at a U.S. Embassy, you must also provide the U.S. Embassy with proof of financial
documentation (originals required) confirming the funding source(s) outlined in
#5 of your Form DS-2019. If you are mostly funded by Tufts University, carry your
most recent three pay stubs. Be prepared for delays in scheduling an in-person interview.

If you are in H-1B or O-1 Visa Status, you will need:
- A letter from your Tufts sponsoring department verifying your affiliation
with Tufts University;
- Your most recent three Tufts University pay stubs;
- Form I-797, H-1B or O-1 Approval Notice;
- A passport valid at least 6 months beyond the validity date of Form I-797
Approval Notice.
If you are needing to extend or apply for a new visa stamp in your passport at
a U.S. Embassy, you will also need to present the following:
- A recent curriculum vitae;
- photocopies of certain documents from your H-1B or O-1 petitions to USCIS,
which can be obtained from the International Center.
If you are in TN Visa Status, you will need:
- A letter from your Tufts department verifying your affiliation with Tufts
University (the letter must contain expected completion date, job title & brief
job description. Keep in mind that TN visas can only be granted for employment
of one year increments);
- Your most recent three Tufts University pay stubs;
- A passport valid at least 6 months beyond your requested date of employment.
If you are needing to extend or apply for a new TN visa stamp in your passport,
you will also need to present the following at the port of entry:
- Academic credentials;
- Birth certificate.
