Student Admissions &
Orientation, & Faculty Info:
Undergraduate Orientation
International Orientation (I.O.) is sponsored by the International Center at
Tufts. This year's I.O. will take place from Sunday, August 30
through Tuesday, September 1, 2009.
I.O. is a three-day program designed to introduce incoming international
students to life at Tufts before all-University Orientation begins. Approximately
150 first-year and transfer students attend the program, including international
students who are on U.S. visas, U.S. permanent residents, students from Puerto Rico,
Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Americans who have been living overseas, and
a small group of Americans from across the U.S., some of whom are interested in
International Relations and others who are from the Boston area. Twenty upper-class
students are selected from among American and International students to lead the
program as Host Advisors.
For over twenty years now, I.O. has facilitated the creation of small, diverse groups
that provide opportunities to befriend a broad range of students at Tufts; the acclimation
of participants to the United States, Boston and Tufts; and the promotion of an
intercultural community where members feel connected to one another.
