Departing the U.S. & Tax Information

Please email the International Center with your anticipated official final date at Tufts. This should be done about 4-6 weeks prior to that date, no earlier. The International Center does not need to prepare any immigration documentation for you to leave the U.S. Please be sure to have your documents with you at the time you depart (your visa document, your passport and your I-94 card). If you were special registered when you entered the U.S., be sure to follow the proper instructions upon leaving the country as well as departing through an appropriate exit terminal. If you have received any compensation from Tufts University during your stay, then you should be sure to email the Director of the Tufts Service Center your home country address. Please email it to edna.gilreath@tufts.edu. U.S. tax season runs from January 1 - April 15th (reporting season for the previous calendar year). At the end of January, the Tufts Service Center sends out information which you will need for preparing your tax return for the previous calendar year. For this reason, it is important that they know where to mail it to. Our office also provides non-resident aliens with access to an on-line foreign tax preparation software system. Please email us in January and we can give you access to this product. You may also visit the Internal Revenue (IRS) website for more detailed information.
