Special Registration
Important Changes to "Special Registration" Requirements:
The Immigration Service has suspended the blanket "re- registration"
requirements of the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS).
This program required aliens from 26+ countries to undergo special
registration (including providing a photograph, fingerprint, and
extensive biographic information) upon entry to the U.S. It also
required those aliens who were already in the U.S. to report to an
immigration office for registration by designated dates.
While the NSEERS program continues and has not been abolished as widely
reported, the obligation of those registered to report for
"re-registration" 30 days after entry to the U.S. and one year after
initial registration has been suspended effective December 2, 2003.
It is our understanding that individuals are still required to continue
to report to the U.S. Immigration & Citizenship Services (USCIS) when
exiting the U.S.. Individuals must report in at
a designated airport at the
final port of departure from the U.S.. Please visit the link below on
List of Ports authorized for Entry & Departure Registration.
It is your responsibility to keep informed of your Special Registration
requirements. If you feel that you need specific assistance in this
area, we advise that you seek the advice of an
immigration attorney.
Selected groups or individuals may still be required to re-register upon
notice from USCIS by mail or email. Please be sure to keep your address
updated both with our office
as well as with USCIS.
(Some of the special registration countries include Afghanistan,
Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq,
Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan,
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab
Emirates, and Yemen.)
Special Registration can be imposed on individuals from
"any country,"
not just above-mentioned countries.
