Our goal is to provide the range of medical care that is needed
by the young adult population of students here at Tufts. You should
use Health Service just as you would your regular doctor at home. We
see students for all sorts of illness and injuries. Some students
need regular follow up visits for ongoing health issues such as
asthma, migraines, and eating disorders. We provide sexual health
care to students of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
We can help students find local specialists such as eye doctors,
dentists, gastroenterologists, physical therapists, etc. We can fill
out health forms for travel abroad programs and job applications. We
provide general physical exams. Students consult us before
traveling, and we administer the most commonly needed travel
immunizations. We give shots and do TB tests.
FAQs
How do I make an appointment to be seen?
We see students on both
a walk-in basis and by appointment. "Walk-In" is available for acute
illness or injury, whenever the office is open. Students are seen
based on the urgency of their medical problem, and on a first come,
first served basis. Because you are not given a specific appointment
time, you may need to wait, particularly during open block!
Appointments are used for routine visits, for example: follow up
visits, evaluation of chronic and non-urgent problems, women’s
health visits , STI testing, checkups and travel visits, and for
minor ill visits when students would like a specific appointment
time. To make an appointment, call the main number whenever the
office is open (617-627-3350). We do not have an online system for
appointment scheduling. If you need to be seen in Walk In, you
just...walk in! If you are not sure if you should come to walk in or
make an appointment, give us a call and we can advise you.
I need to see a specialist. How can I find one in the area?
Health
Service provides primary care, and we do not have specialists here
(with the exception of an orthopedist during the school year). You
can find a local specialist for your medical condition in one of
several ways.
- Go online with your insurance company (the website should be
listed on your insurance card). You can search by type of specialist
and town/state.
- If you have a specialist at home, they may know someone in the
area who they would recommend.
- Come to Health Service. We have lists of some local specialists
who our students have used. These are not all inclusive lists, and
you would need to check if they accept your insurance, but it is a
place to start.
- If you have student health insurance through the university, you
need to get a referral from Health Service to authorize the
specialist visit. Call our business office for more information.
