Tufts University Health Service
offers a pharmacy program in conjunction with
Inman Pharmacy in Cambridge. This service provides a significant convenience to
many students, as there are no pharmacies located close to the campus and we do not have
a pharmacy at Health Service. Prescriptions are called into Inman Pharmacy, which then
fills and delivers them to Health Service several times a day (2-3 times a day).
ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PREPARED TO PAY THEIR CO-PAY AT THE TIME THEY PICK UP THEIR
PRESCRIPTION FROM HEALTH SERVICE. Payment should be in the form of a check made
out to Inman Pharmacy, or students may choose to charge the remainder of the bill to
their credit card or debit card account. We cannot accept cash payments.
Here are some helpful hints:
For students with Private Health Insurance (eg covered under your parent's/spouse's
/partner's insurance):
- Inman Pharmacy is able to bill many, but not all, private insurance companies.
The co-pay is determined by the insurance company.
- If you have private health insurance, Inman Pharmacy needs a copy of your insurance
card in order to submit the bill to your insurance. We will be happy to fax a copy of
your insurance card directly to Inman Pharmacy for you.
- There may be other private insurance companies that Inman pharmacy is unable to bill
directly, but this information is often not known until billing is attempted.
- In some cases, insurance companies will reimburse you for a prescription from Inman
pharmacy, even if Inman cannot directly bill the insurance company.
- Some insurance companies require the consumer to use a specific pharmacy.
- You may need to call your insurance company directly to see if they require you to
use a specific pharmacy, or if they will reimburse you for prescriptions filled at Inman pharmacy.
How to Get Your Prescriptions from Outside Clinicians Filled
Inman Pharmacy will fill prescriptions for Tufts students that are written by providers from
home or from outside Health Service. In order to do this, students must come to Health Service
and provide the following information:
- A TUHS Pharmacy Program form must be completed to provide Inman Pharmacy with demographics
and insurance information. Forms are available at the Health Service office.
- A Copy of both sides of the student's insurance card must be sent to Inman - the nurses at
Health Service can do this.
- If your clinician has given you a prescription, our nursing staff can send it to Inman.
- Alternately, your clinician can call the prescription directly to Inman Pharmacy themselves,
or fax a copy of the prescription to Inman. The clinician needs to be sure to specify that the
patient is a Tufts student, so that the medication will be delivered to Health Service. (Inman:
phone 617-876-4868, fax 617-547-9521).
- Prescriptions for Schedule II drugs written by outside providers cannot be called into Inman
Pharmacy by Health Service employees. Therefore, these prescriptions should be either faxed
directly to Inman Pharmacy or placed in the "mailbox" to be picked up and delivered
to Inman Pharmacy. Students should be advised that these prescriptions might not come in on
the next delivery
If you need to speak with someone directly at Inman
Pharmacy, their phone number is 617-876-4868. Additional Information available:
