Tufts Resources:
Health and Wellness Services (73350): The clinicians at Health
Services provide evaluation and treatment recommendations for a wide variety
of alcohol and drug-related issues, including smoking cessation.
Counseling and Mental Health Service (73360): Staff is available
to discuss personal and academic concerns without charge to all full- time
undergraduate and graduate students at Tufts who are covered by the
comprehensive health fee. Interviews with counselors are private and
confidential. Also available - outside referrals and assessment of medical
needs by staff psychiatrists.
On-Call System (73030): Tufts arranges to have 24-hour/day access
to University physicians, counselors and deans through an after-hours on-call system.
Tufts Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) & Tufts University Police (TUPD) (73030):
Students who staff TEMS are Massachusetts certified Emergency Medical Technicians are
available 24 hours a day to provided immediate and high quality medical aid to the
Tufts Community. TUPD ensures the safety of the Tufts community by responding to
emergencies, enforcing applicable state and federal laws and working closely with
the Somerville and Medford Police and Fire Departments.
Dean of Students Office: Staff is available to assist students
who feel at risk for any reason, to respond to emergencies or worries about
a friend in crisis, and to help address a host of personal issues - including
alcohol and drug use and addiction. Call 73158.
Office of Residential Life and Learning (73248): There are a few
residence hall floors that have been designated as healthy living floors. Students
who choose to live here commit to maintaining an alcohol, drug and tobacco-free
environment.
Ears for Peers (73888): Ears For Peers is the confidential peer support
hotline of Tufts University serving the Tufts community from 7pm to 7am every
night of the academic year.

Alcoholics
Anonymous (AA): 1) is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or
her drinking and 2) uses a model of sharing experiences with members for the goal
of supporting recovery from addiction.

Anonymous, Al-Anon/Alateen (1-888-4AL-ANON) for those with addicted family
members, Marijuana Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Gamblers
Anonymous, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Nicotine Anonymous, and more.
New Resource: Online Recovery
Too busy? Can't get to an AA meeting? Nervous about an unfamiliar meeting?
Many things can prevent people from attending Alcoholics
Anonymous (AA) meetings in person, from disability to lack of
transportation to a sheer case of the nerves. You now have the
option to attend AA meetings virtually via the web. Check out
the AA website for daily online
chats and weekly discussion groups.
Regional Treatment Resources: The Massachusetts Department of Public
Health (DPH) funds 6 Regional Centers for Healthy Communities (RCHCs). These
centers provide resource and referral information for statewide programs and
services in the area of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Go to

to locate a specific center for referral to treatment, prevention and education programs.
In addition, DPH runs the Massachusetts Substance Abuse Information and
Education Helpline. This service provides free and confidential information
and referral for alcohol and other drug abuse problems and related concerns
24 hours a day. Contact the Helpline at : 800-327-5050, TTY: 617-536-5872 or

Although there is tremendous variation, most health insurance plans
will cover some drug and alcohol treatment. This may include inpatient
(detox, rehab, half-way houses, sober houses), outpatient and appointments
with individual therapists (psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, etc.).

assistance.
