Ian Wong, MSPH
Director, Health Education
Welcome to Tufts Health Service and the Health Education Program.
Ian received his B.A from the University of California in medical
sociology and a minor in Chinese studies. Ian was awarded his
Masters of Science in Public Health at University of Massachusetts,
Amherst School of Public Health in Community Health Education. His
thesis was "Social and Peer Supports of Recovering Alcohol Abuse
Students Living on a College Campus".
Ian has over 20 years experience in college health beginning his
college health career as a teaching assistant at UMass Amherst's
Health Services Drug and Alcohol Program. Ian was then hired as the
coordinator of Alcohol and other Drug Coordinator at Babson College
where he became the director of Health Services.
In January of 2001, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
asked Ian to coordinate the newly created Yong Adult Community
Health Program. The program focused on the public health needs of
600,000 18 to 24 years old living in Massachusetts. As coordinator,
Ian chaired the Massachusetts Statewide University and College
Coalition on Underage and Problem Drinking, participating in the
prevention of suicide, gambling, violence and reduction of tobacco
use in the college-age population. Ian was the primary resource of
college health technical assistance for the Massachusetts Department
of Public Health.
Ian has served on numerous national and regional college health
committees, task forces and executive boards and has presented at
numerous national and local conferences and was the former president
of the New England College Health Association.
Ian's interests are in community health prevention and Young Adult
health.
Ian is married and has two children. He enjoys the beach and
anything to do with water sports.
