WHAT IS IT? The Graduate Student Symposium (GSS) highlights the exemplary research that is conducted on the Tufts campus. The GSS is also an interdisciplinary symposium designed to help graduate students at Tufts obtain experience in presenting their research and develop the skills necessary to describe their work to a diverse community.
WHAT DO PARTICIPANTS DO? The symposium is a full day event with each participant giving a 15 minute oral presentation of their work, with five minutes for questions. The event is free to both participants and the audience and will include breakfast, lunch and coffee throughout the day. This just in! See the tentative schedule for this year's program.
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE? First, there is the experience gained by presenting your work to a diverse group of listeners from both in and out of your field and being judged by faculty and administration from the graduate school. Second, prizes (yes, money!) will be awarded by the judges for excellence.
WHO ARE THE JUDGES? The honorary chair of the judging committee will be University President Lawrence Bacow. Among the other judges will be newly appointed Dean Robin Kanarak of Graduate Arts and Sciences. We currently have judges from CEE, Biology, UEP, and Math. Do you have a wonderful professor you would like to suggest as a judge? Let me know.
OKAY, I'M IN, WHAT SHOULD I DO? So what can you do? Show up on April 6 and support your friends! We have submissions from a wide range of departments and are expecting a wonderful time. Come check out what your school-mates are up to!
