News: Swahili Ranks # 1 Among Less Commonly Taught Languages

Enrollments
in Languages Other Than English in United States Institutions of Higher Education,
Fall 2006 According to the report, Swahili heads the undergraduate enrollment list of the 200 "less commonly taught languages". The latest data is for the year 2006 and shows that since 2002 Swahili enrollments increased nationally by more than 35% to a total of 2,075. There is "no contest" when Swahili is compared to other African languages
