Event: “Forensic Geology: Earthly Crimes Solved with Dirt” – a talk by Raymond Murray, PhD
Time: Friday, October 2 3:30 PM
Place: Room 100, Lane Hall
The Department of Geology is pleased to announce a talk about forensic geology by Ray Murray, a Tufts Geology alumnus. Professor Murray had already established a distinguished career in sedimentary geology at Rutgers University, when one day he was approached by an agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to assist in determining the source of some soil at a crime scene. He found that work fascinating, and it led to extensive collaboration with law enforcement in many criminal investigations over the past 30 years. He has published a number of geological articles and textbooks, including the first textbook on forensic geology. Professor Murray’s talk is intended for geologists and non-geologists alike, illustrating practical applications of the science of geology in forensics.
