SCHOOL OF ARTS & SCIENCES
Anthropology: Sociocultural Anthropology
Tufts University tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Sociocultural
Anthropology, beginning September 2008. We are seeking candidates whose research
engages transnational and national political processes from an anthropological perspective.
This focus may include (but is not limited to) the anthropology of the state, forms
of governance, citizenship, human rights, humanitarian intervention, environmental
crises, refugees and displacement, and the politics of global security. Preference
will be given to candidates specializing in geographical areas not covered by the
department, especially the Middle East and East or Southeast Asia. Candidates
must demonstrate an active research agenda and a strong record of scholarship.
Ph.D. required at time of appointment. Teaching experience strongly preferred.
Expected to teach introductory-level course, area and topic courses, seminar in
area of research, and theory in rotation with other faculty. Review of applications

Art and Art History: Arthur H. Dadian and Ara Oztemel Professor of
Armenian Art
The Department of Art and Art History at Tufts University seeks an
outstanding scholar at any rank to teach and advise undergraduates and graduate
students in MA and MFA programs. Research focus should be on Armenian art and
architecture with preferred secondary interest in Ancient, Late Antique,
Byzantine, or Medieval. Successful candidate is expected to contribute lectures
in appropriate areas to year-long team-taught survey of the history of art. The
department offers majors in Art History and in Architectural Studies. Ph.D.,
teaching experience, and evidence of outstanding scholarly potential or

Biology: Molecular Evolution
The Department of Biology at Tufts University invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor in Molecular Evolution beginning in September
2008. Research areas might include evolutionary genetics, molecular
phylogenetics, evolutionary development, or gene regulatory networks. Preference
will be given to candidates with strong bioinformatics training and approaches,
whose research will complement current departmental strengths in genome
stability, developmental biology, behavior, physiology, or population ecology
(see http://ase.tufts.edu/biology). The successful candidate is expected to
develop an active externally funded research program involving graduate and
undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include contributing to
undergraduate and graduate level courses in evolution and other departmental

Chemistry:
Chemistry/Biology Interface
(Three positions)
The Department of Chemistry is beginning a phase of significant expansion.
Applications are invited for three tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant
professor with research interests at the interface of chemistry and biology.
All areas of chemistry will be considered. The department has a particular interest
in hiring at least one candidate who has research plans at this interface with a
strong synthetic organic chemistry component. Successful candidates will demonstrate
the potential to develop an internationally recognized research program and excel
in teaching. The Chemistry Department at Tufts is a well-funded, thriving
community of researchers with collaborations spanning across the university.
Excellent resources are available for new investigators interested in building a
program in the Life Sciences—one of the universitys strengths. Teaching responsibilities

Child Development: Coordinator of Field
Placements (Non-tenure-track)
The Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development invites
applications for a Lecturer and Coordinator of Field Placements. This will be a
one-year appointment, beginning in September 2008. The position includes
teaching, administrative, and advising responsibilities. Teaching will include 2
courses per semester and supervision of student teachers and practicum students.
Administrative responsibilities for the program will include: Coordinate the
state accreditation review process. Keep abreast of state regulations. Collect
and prepare necessary paperwork for licensure for all teacher education
students. Disseminate job information for students. Provide letters and
necessary information to schools and supervising practitioners, such as vouchers
and compensation for teachers and supervisors. Maintain internship website.
Maintain all necessary records for student teachers. Coordinate student teacher
placements and internship placements for CD 99/199 (community field work
courses). Consult regularly with faculty person overseeing 232 (MA Applied
capstone) internship program. Maintain relationships with public schools, early
intervention sites, preschool programs, and laboratory and internship sites.
Respond to alumni queries regarding employment and licensure in other states.
Advising and Supervision: Advise all students in the pre-k to second grade
certification program as well as advise own advising group. Supervise MA
interns; consult with other supervisors of student teachers regarding issues
that arise during the semester. Meet with supervisors group twice each
semester.
Licensure to teach in Massachusetts and early childhood
teaching experience are essential. Prior experience as lecturer in teacher ed
program helpful.
The Department of Child Development is internationally
renowned for its undergraduate and graduate programs, which include a vibrant
Ph.D. program in Applied Child Development, masters programs in applied child
development and teacher preparation, and one of the largest undergraduate majors
at Tufts. The Department is also known for its interdisciplinary composition and
its dedication to doing applied research and preparing students for work with
diverse groups of children in a wide variety of ecologies. Within the

Community Health: Health Care in the United States (Non-tenure-track)
The Community Health
Program invites applications for a full-time lecturer position with a focus on
health policy, beginning in September 2008. Candidates must demonstrate a
strong interest in undergraduate advising and education, preferably supported by
undergraduate teaching experience. Ph.D. or equivalent degree (MD, JD, DPH,
etc.) required at time of appointment. Founded in 1975, the Community Health Program is committed to helping
students understand health issues from multiple perspectives. Thus, we are
open to applications from candidates with a wide variety of interests. We seek
candidates interested in interdisciplinary research and the integration of
theory, research and practice. Direct experience with community-based
organizations or agencies is highly desirable, as is experience in

successful candidate is expected to teach an introductory lecture course,
"Health Care in America: Policy and Politics" and four other courses, including
a seminar that supports students completing their internships, and will also
assist with Program administration. One of these courses may include leading a
student-research team in a group research project. Although research is not

establish a research career.

Economics:
Macroeconomics/International/Open (Two positions)
The Department of Economics invites applications to fill two full- time faculty
positions starting in September 2008. Candidates in all fields will be considered
but there is a particular interest for candidates with research and teaching interests
in the areas of macroeconomics and international economics. We are looking
for candidates with exceptional promise of scholarly potential at the Assistant
Professor level, or an exceptional record of scholarly achievement at the Associate
Professor level. All candidates should also have either the potential or demonstrated
ability to be excellent teachers of both undergraduate and graduate students.

Education: School Psychology (Non-tenure-track)
Tufts University Department of Education seeks a full-time lecturer for a
two-year, renewable position in School Psychology. The starting date is
September 1, 2008 or January 1, 2009. An active record of professional School
Psychology experience, a commitment to teaching, and a Doctoral degree at the
time of the appointment are required. Doctoral-level specialization in School
Psychology, state licensing, and national certification as a School Psychologist
are strongly preferred.
Citizenship and public service are central to the mission of Tufts

through the preparation of School Psychologists to work in urban, urban rim,
suburban, and non-traditional environments. Within these contexts, the

to future school psychologists,

Twentieth-century American Literature, Assistant Professor. Tenure-track.

Geology: Mineralogy and Petrology
Tufts University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position
as an Assistant Professor of Geology in the areas of Mineralogy and Petrology, beginning
September 1, 2008. Qualifications include: Ph.D. by time of appointment;

German, Russian, and Asian Languages and Literatures: Pre-modern
Chinese Literature and Culture
Tufts University invites applications for a position in pre-modern Chinese Literature
and Culture at the level of Associate or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) beginning
September 2008. Candidates with other specializations in Chinese literature
and culture may apply but must have a strong background in classical literature
and culture because the primary teaching responsibilities will be in the pre-modern
period.
Requirements: Ph.D. by time of appointment; native or near-native fluency
in Mandarin Chinese and English; demonstrated excellence in research with a strong
record of publications preferred; demonstrated excellence or potential for such
in the teaching of Chinese literature, culture, and language at the university level;
and interest in theory and in comparative and interdisciplinary approaches in the
teaching of literature and culture.
Responsibilities include: Teaching two courses per semester, at least one
each semester in pre-modern Chinese literature and culture, along with some teaching
in Chinese and an opportunity to teach in area of specialization or to team-teach
and develop courses for Program in International Letters and Visual Studies; student
