Chemistry: Chemistry /Biology Interface (Two positions)

The Department of Chemistry is beginning a phase of significant
expansion. Applications are invited for three tenure-track assistant
professor positions with research interests at the interface of
chemistry and biology. All areas of chemistry will be considered.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential to develop an
internationally recognized research program and excel in teaching. The
Chemistry Department at Tufts is a well-funded, thriving community of

building a program in the Life Sciences – one of the university's

Child Development: Early Childhood Education
Associate/Full Professor in Early Childhood Education: The Eliot-Pearson
Department of Child Development is seeking applicants for a faculty
position in early childhood education (age range 0-8) to begin September
2009. Appointment can be at the associate professor or full professor
level depending on the successful candidate's qualifications,
experience, and record of scholarship. A primary responsibility for this
faculty position is to provide vision and collaborative leadership in
developing and overseeing academic programs in early childhood
education, working in conjunction with colleagues in the Department of
Child Development and associated ECE laboratory sites, and in
collaboration with a community-based organization in the Greater Boston
area. The position also includes teaching two to three courses in the
field of early care and education; maintaining an active and highly
productive research program; guiding undergraduate and graduate students
in early care and education; and participating in departmental and
university committees. While the specific area of scholarship within
early childhood is open, we are especially interested in candidates with
scholarly and professional expertise in one or more of the following:
equity issues in early childhood education, language and literacy, early
care and education policy, arts in early education, digital technology
and early learners, teacher inquiry, curriculum development, and special
education.
REQUIREMENTS: University-level teaching experience, doctorate
in early childhood education or related field, and record of scholarly
productivity and grantsmanship. Background and experience to provide
leadership in both scholarship and practice. Interest in understanding
the role of large, urban community organizations in the education and
care of young children is necessary.

Education: Mathematics, Science, Technology, and Engineering Education (SEARCH DEFERRED)

Tufts University
Department of Education invites applications for a full-time
tenure-track position in the areas of Mathematics and/or Science
Education at the Assistant Professor level. Teaching at the middle, high
school, or higher education levels preferred. Doctoral degree in hand at
the time of the appointment required.
Responsibilities include developing research in Mathematics or Science
Education, successful grant writing, participation in the Department’s
projects, and teaching, advising, and supervising students in the
Department's Master of Arts in Teaching and in the interdisciplinary
M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. programs in
Mathematics, Science, Technology and Engineering (MSTE) Education.
Faculty in the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in MSTE Education at Tufts have
been successful, since the program was created in 2003, in attracting
strong students and major research grants to Tufts and in building
strong inter-disciplinary collaboration with other A&S departments. Our
teacher preparation and research programs have established close
collaboration with schools in the area. The successful candidate will
collaborate with faculty from the Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering
Departments towards the preparation of teachers and researchers and will
have the opportunity to participate in current Mathematics, Science, and
Engineering Education sponsored projects. In addition, the department
encourages joint research with the faculties and research staffs of
neighboring universities and educational research organizations.

Preferable qualities of a successful candidate are:
- A solid background in Mathematics or Science;

German, Russian and Asian Languages and Literatures: Arabic Language
(Non-tenure-track) (POSITION FILLED)
The Department of German, Russian, and Asian Languages and Literatures
at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time lecturer
position in Arabic Language beginning in September 2009 with possibility

Physics and Astronomy: Observational Astronomy/Astrophysics (POSITION FILLED)
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Tufts University invites
applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of
Observational Astronomy/Astrophysics to begin September 1, 2009. To
qualify for the position the candidate must have a Ph. D. in astronomy,
astrophysics, or a related field; post-doctoral experience with
observations obtained by either ground-based or space-based astronomical
instruments; and a vigorous research program of internationally
recognized importance. We are particularly interested in candidates
working in extragalactic research related to observational cosmology who
will broaden our current areas of research. The candidate is expected to
teach courses in astronomy and astrophysics at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels, and to mentor undergraduates in individual research
projects. We expect the new hire to be able to generate research grants
after coming to Tufts, to sustain research programs of high
international standards, and to supervise dissertation work by graduate
students in astronomy or astrophysics.

Romance Languages: Spanish: Transatlantic Studies (POSITION FILLED)
Assistant Professor of Spanish (tenure-track), beginning in Fall 2009.
Specialist in Modern Transatlantic Studies. Knowledge of comparative

Biomedical Engineering: Regenerative Medicine (POSITION FILLED)
Tufts University, Department of Biomedical Engineering, seeks candidates

Chemical and Biological Engineering: Sustainable Energy (POSITION FILLED)
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts
University seeks a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant
Professor. However, exceptional senior candidates will be considered for
appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Candidates with
a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related field, and excellent

Computer Science: Cognitive Science
The Department of Computer Science at Tufts University
invites applications for a faculty appointment at the Professor or Associate
Professor level in Cognitive Science or related area to begin in September
2009. The exact area of research interest is less important than demonstrated
research excellence and existing, or strong potential for, extramural funding.
The successful candidate will be asked to represent Computer Science on the
Steering Committee of the new Tufts Program in Cognitive and Brain Science, and
should be able to teach courses in Cognitive Science and/or Artificial
Intelligence as part of that Program, as well as introductory courses in computer
science and more advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate's

Electrical and Computer Engineering: Alvin H. Howell Endowed
Professorship in Electrical Engineering
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts
University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Alvin H.
Howell Endowed Professorship in Electrical Engineering. We are seeking a
forward-looking individual who is internationally recognized for the
impact of his/her scholarship and is committed to interdisciplinary
research and education. Outstanding candidates from any subfield of
electrical and computer engineering are encouraged to apply. We expect
to fill this position at the academic rank of full professor. Primary
evaluation criteria will include a demonstrated ability to build and
sustain cross-disciplinary research programs, the potential for
developing collaborations with current SOE faculty, and a track record
