Child Development: Early Childhood Education
Professional Development Coordinator/Lecturer (Non-tenure-track)
The Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development invites applications for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Professional Development Coordinator & Lecturer, beginning August, 2010, with a two-year renewable contract. We seek an exceptional teacher, collaborator, and leader to prepare, mentor, and support students and professionals engaged with young children, their families, and their schools, as we advance our commitment to equity in early childhood.

Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in child development or related field (e.g., PhD, EdD, in ECE, Special Education, Teacher Education, Applied Developmental Science) as well as demonstrate commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and integration of theory, research, and practice. The successful candidate will have experience with young children 0-8, including service delivery/practice and classroom teaching as well as university teaching. Experience supervising early childhood development professionals and developing programs for professionals working in early childhood fields is required. Understanding classrooms and the role of large, urban community organizations in the education and care of young children is necessary. Specific areas of expertise might be teacher development/inquiry; reading, digital, science, arts, or math literacy; curriculum development; special education; inclusive classrooms; dual-language learners; child care and educational policy; early intervention; infant mental health; or equity issues in education. Experience with professional certification processes, multi-agency collaboration, or service learning is desirable.

Duties: working with the Director of Early Child Development and Education to develop, administer, and provide pre-service and professional training for early childhood professionals, including state certification programs; collaborating with multidisciplinary faculty and community partners; developing revenue streams to support this work; advising students; and teaching two courses each semester.

Classics: Philology
Assistant Professor
The Department of Classics at Tufts University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor beginning in September 2010. Ph.D. required. Advanced as well as beginning assistant professors are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a strong record of scholarship and teaching and a commitment to expand the use of Greek and Latin within Tufts and beyond. Specialization is open: focus of the candidate can be in either Greek or Latin but candidates should be comfortable teaching classes at any level in either language. Drama and Dance: Pre-Modern Theatre (Classical to 1750)

Associate/Full Professor
The Tufts University Department of Drama and Dance seeks mid-career applicants for an Associate or a Full Professor of Drama, with a specialization in classical, medieval, early modern, Baroque or Rococo theatre. This is a fulltime, tenure-track position with an anticipated starting date of September 1, 2010.

The Department of Drama and Dance provides a strong liberal arts approach to the intellectual, historical, and aesthetic dimensions of performance. Our undergraduate program in drama integrates acting, design, directing, dramatic literature and criticism, performance studies, technical theatre, and theatre history. Modern dance and creative work are the core curricular elements of our undergraduate dance program, which also offers several non-western forms throughout the year. The program of study leading to the doctor of philosophy or master of arts degree in drama embraces theatre history, dramatic literature, dramatic theory and criticism, and research. It is expected that graduate students will already have attained a level of proficiency in the creative and/or performance aspects of theatre.

Located about five miles northwest of Boston, within easy access by public transportation to the cultural and social resources of Boston and Cambridge, Tufts is recognized as one of the premier liberal arts colleges within a research university.   • Teach new or existing undergraduate courses in theatre history and/or dramatic literature, theory, and criticism
  • Teach graduate seminars in specialized areas of research and scholarship
  • Advise Ph.D. dissertations and M.A. theses, judge written and oral comprehensive examinations, participate in graduate admissions
  • Advise undergraduate majors and senior thesis projects
  • Direct a departmental major production every two or three years (if mutually agreeable)

Education: School Psychology
Lecturer (Non-tenure-track)
Tufts University Department of Education seeks a full-time lecturer for a two-year, renewable position in School Psychology. The starting date is September 1, 2010. An active record of professional School Psychology experience, a commitment to teaching, and a Doctoral degree in School Psychology or a closely related field at the time of the appointment are required.

Citizenship and public service are central to the mission of Tufts University. German, Russian and Asian Languages and Literatures: Arabic Language
Lecturer (Non-tenure-track)
The Department of German, Russian, and Asian Languages and Literatures at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Arabic Language beginning in September 2010 with possibility of renewal. Salary competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Arabic Program at Tufts has more than 180 students enrolled in five different language levels and more enrolled in its culture and literature offerings taught in English. Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester in Modern Standard Arabic and active involvement and participation in a rapidly developing Arabic Program.

Requirements: native or near-native fluency in Arabic and excellent command of English; demonstrated ability to teach all levels of Modern Standard Arabic at the college level in the U.S.; MA in Arabic or related field required; commitment to language teaching and curricular innovation. Training in language pedagogy highly preferred. Ability to teach one of the dialects favorably considered.

Mathematics: Computational Methods for Nonlinear Inverse Problems
Assistant Professor (Non-tenure-track)

Applications are invited for a term-limited Assistant Professorship to begin September 1, 2010. The initial contract will be for one year, renewable for an additional two years. A Ph. D. in Mathematics or a closely related field, evidence of strong teaching, and promise of strong research are required, with a research focus in computational methods for nonlinear inverse problems. The teaching load will be two courses per semester.

The successful candidate will be expected to join current interdisciplinary research efforts focused on developing efficient and accurate mathematical and computational tools for solving large-scale nonlinear inverse problems, such as those that arise in biomedical and geophysical applications. Candidates with a background in computational PDEs are especially encouraged to apply, but candidates with experience in other areas related to nonlinear inverse problems will also be considered.

Mathematics: Geometric Group Theory and Topology

Occupational Therapy: Open
Lecturer (Non-tenure-track)

Opening for a full-time lecturer, two-year renewable contract, to teach and advise occupational therapy graduate students starting September 2010. The position requires expertise in the interdisciplinary area of health and community systems and this is the primary area in which the person will be expected to teach. Secondary areas of teaching may include clinical reasoning and health promotion. The position requires the person develop teaching and scholarship collaborations with disciplines relevant to occupational therapy or occupational science, particularly in the areas of mind-body-environment interactions, cultural competence, and full participation in community living for individuals with disability or at risk of disability.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Occupational Therapy Department’s focus on community health. This candidate must demonstrate a commitment to health promotion and programming for people with disabilities. Physics and Astronomy: Observational Astronomy/Astrophysics
Assistant Professor

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Tufts University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of Observational Astronomy/Astrophysics, beginning September 1, 2010. To qualify for the position the candidate must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field, and post-doctoral experience with observations or analysis of data obtained by either ground-based or space-based astronomical instruments, performing research of internationally recognized importance. We are particularly interested in candidates who will complement or strengthen our existing research programs in astronomy, astrophysics and/or cosmology. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in astronomy and astrophysics at the undergraduate and the graduate level, and to mentor undergraduates in individual research projects. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. We expect the new hire to generate research grants after coming to Tufts, to maintain a sustained research program, and to supervise thesis work by graduate students. The department offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, and includes strong research programs in observational astronomy, theoretical cosmology, particle physics, and condensed matter physics.

Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning: Urban Planning and Policy
Associate/Full Professor and Department Chair

We are seeking a distinguished scholar in urban planning and policy. This is a senior faculty position at the associate or full professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as department chair, beginning Fall 2010. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior scholar to play a leadership role in a strong department dedicated to educating "practical visionaries." The candidate’s specialization may be in any of a number of sub-fields of planning and policy. Interest and expertise in international or comparative planning or social policy would be desirable. A standard teaching load for tenure-line faculty in this graduate department is three courses per year, plus thesis advising; however, the department chair receives one course release plus other benefits.

Qualifications --
We are seeking an internationally renowned scholar with an outstanding research and publishing record in an area of urban planning and policy. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of achievement in departmental management. Exemplary teaching and advising is required and professional planning experience, especially overseas, is desirable, as well as AICP or other planning or policy certification.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University seeks candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate level, with rank determined by experience and accomplishments. Chemical and Biological Engineering: Open
Full Professor and Department Chair

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) at Tufts University invites applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of Full Professor. We seek a demonstrated leader whose research interests complement those of our departmental faculty, and who will be committed to fostering excellence in scholarship, teaching, and the interdisciplinary thrust areas of the School of Engineering at Tufts: Engineering for Sustainability, Bioengineering, and Engineering Education Innovation. The ChBE Department comprises nine tenured and tenure-track faculty, three research faculty, two Professors of the Practice, and three adjunct professors. The Department of Computer Science at Tufts University invites applications for a faculty appointment in Graphics and/or Visualization to begin in September 2010.  We are particularly interested in candidates who will link to existing research strengths in the department.

Electrical and Computer Engineering: Open
Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts University seeks a junior tenure-track faculty member at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Truly exceptional senior candidates may also be considered at the level of Full Professor. The department is particularly interested in attracting an individual with expertise in network information theory including sensing, processing, and communication in distributed ad hoc networks. Outstanding candidates from any subfield of electrical and computer engineering, however, are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have two to three years of post doctoral experience that includes a strong publication record, supervision of graduate students, and substantive interaction with funding agencies. Primary evaluation criteria will include an ability to build and sustain cross-disciplinary research programs, the potential for developing collaborations with current faculty, and a strong desire to inclusively mentor both graduate and undergraduate students. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will also contribute to one or more of the School’s three strategic focal areas: Engineering for Sustainability, Bioengineering, and Engineering Education Innovation.
