Activities/Opportunities for Emeriti Faculty

Tufts University wishes to make certain that we participate, insofar as it is within our means and resources, to enriching the lives of our faculty during retirement.  While constraints of space and resources may limit us in more fully responding to the needs of our emeriti faculty, we are committed to trying.  Please feel free to send suggestions to the Provost's Office, Ballou Hall, Medford Campus.

COMMENCEMENT
Emeriti faculty are invited to attend the University-wide and School commencement programs in the year they are awarded emeritus status.  Please contact support staff in your department or your school dean's office for specific information regarding the school's commencement program.

ANNUAL LUNCHEON
The Provost's office invites emeriti faculty in the New England area to attend an annual luncheon held on the Medford campus.  It provides an opportunity for you to connect with former colleagues.  The Provost offers remarks on the state of the University accomplishments, activities and planning throughout the University.

ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS
Academic departments are urged to maintain an active list of their emeriti faculty and encouraged to invite emeriti faculty to appropriate departmental events.  Emeriti faculty are encouraged to remain involved in departmental colloquia, lectures, and professional and social events.

EMAIL ACCESS
Tufts will continue to permit you to use your Tufts email address after retirement.  You or the department administrator in your office should send a request to uitsc@tufts.edu for your Tufts email address to be extended after retirement.

AS&E FACULTY MEETINGS
AS&E emeriti faculty are invited to attend faculty meetings, without vote, of the appropriate school or college.  They may request agenda mailings from the Secretary of the Faculty of the appropriate school.

ATHLETICS
The Department of Athletics is located in Cousens Gymnasium on College Avenue on the Medford campus.  Emeriti faculty who would like access to the Department of Athletics facilities, including the Lunder Fitness Center, should contact the Director's office at 617-627-3232, or view Tufts Athletics Department's website for information at:  http://ase.tufts.edu/athletics

LIBRARY PRIVILEGES
Emeriti faculty members should maintain their Tufts I.D. cards to have access to the Tufts Library Systems as well as for other events and activities on campus.  AS&E Faculty who want to retain library privileges in Tisch Library should contact the Manager of Access and Media Services in Tisch Library.  Emeriti faculty in other schools should contact the library director in their school.  Emeriti faculty may request carrel space in Tisch Library on the Medford campus -- to be assigned when available.

MENTORING AND TEACHING
At times, there are opportunities for emeriti to teach part time in their departments.  There may also be mentoring and teaching possibilities through the Experimental College located at 95 Talbot Avenue on the Medford campus.  Please contact Robyn Gittleman, Director of the Experimental College, (617-627-3384) if you are interested.   Also worth checking out is The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Tufts University.  Its on-campus study groups and on-line distance learning courses provide a wonderful opportunity to stay connected to Tufts.  For information see http://ase.tufts.edu/lli/ or contact the Program Director at 617-627-5885.
