Scholarship & Research: Professor Loury received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978 and worked as an Assistant Research Scientist at the Survey Research Center of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from 1978-82. From 1982-84, she was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and in 1984, she joined the Tufts University Department of Economics as an Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 1990. Most of her work in the area of group differences in earnings, intergenerational mobility, and various issues concerning the relationship between education and earnings. Her work has been published in the Journal of Labor Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics, and the Journal of Human Resources. Two of her most recent publications are: "Job Information Networks, Neighborhood Effects, and Inequality" Journal of Economic Literature 42 (2004): 1060-1097 and "Siblings and Gender Differences in African-American College Attendance" in Economics of Education Review 23 (2004): 213-219.
