George's primary concern as a philosopher of science is with evidence in the advanced sciences and derivatively in engineering and medicine. His research over the last 15 years has focused heavily on the development of evidence during the period from Tycho Brahe through Laplace, with special emphasis on Newton's Principia.
George has also done work on the transition from mere speculation about the microphysical realm to systematic, empirically driven theory development during the course of late 19th and early 20th century physics and chemistry.
Served as the Director of the Curricular Software Studio at Tufts from its inception in 1985.
As an engineer, Smith's specialty is aerodynamically induced vibration and resulting metal fatigue failures in jet engines and other turbomachinery.
