Prof. Omenetto’s research has covered ultrafast laser diagnostics, nonlinear pulse propagation, fiber optics and application of adaptive control to ultrafast laser experiments (demonstrating for the first time application of adaptive techniques to short-pulse propagation in fibers) and studies of ultrafast nonlinear phenomena in photonic crystal waveguides and photonic crystal structures. Recently research interests have also been directed on the use of ultrafast lasers for precision spectroscopy with optical frequency combs (in collaboration with NIST and LANL).
Future research will focus on the studies of nonlinear optical properties of new micro and nanostructured materials and the integration of multiple aspects of ultrafast nonlinear optics for biomedical disciplines and biomedical instrumentation, with special attention devoted to imaging applications.
