Deborah Slater has over 30 years of experience in clinical and administrative positions in a broad variety of organizational settings. Her clinical specialty area is hand rehabilitation but for over 20 years, she has focused on management roles overseeing large single and multidisciplinary departments in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has developed start up off-site satellite clinics for several organizations including new program development and has extensive experience in financial management, as well as reimbursement. Deborah has also been active in a variety of volunteer leadership positions for the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy (Executive Board member) and AOTA, including AMSIS (Administration and Management Special Interest Section) committee member and chair, SISSC (Special Interest Section Steering Committee) chair, Practice Representative to the Ethics Commission (EC), chair of the Ethics Commission, member of the AOTA Board of Directors and chair of the ad hoc committee on Scope of Practice. Since June of 2003, she has worked for AOTA as a practice associate and staff liaison to the Ethics Commission and the Special Interest Sections. She has done numerous presentations on ethics at state and national conferences and has also published on this subject. In addition, she has done presentations on Scope of Practice issues and has published and developed educational materials for Program Directors and AOTA members on this topic.
In addition to the awards listed above, Deborah has received numerous Service Awards for various volunteer leadership positions within AOTA.
