Programs: English Today

English Today is designed for individuals who desire a combination of classes and activities to make the most of their summer in Boston.

Tufts faculty draw upon students' unique contributions to their classes and their own creativity. Teachers are available outside of class for individual appointments. In this way, each student receives individual attention.

Evening tutoring sessions led by Tufts Summer English Language Program staff provide support for you in completing homework assignments and discovering new aspects of American culture.

Core Course - 2 hours, 15 minutes
Discover the key to effective communication in English. Experienced teachers help you strengthen your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in small classes (up to 14 students), each grouped by ability from High Beginner to Advanced. Our dynamic "American style" of teaching will bring out the best learner in you!

Elective Course - 1 hour, 15 minutes
Gain confidence and ease with English as you concentrate on issues that are of interest to you. Topics include:

  • Current Events
  • American Idioms and Culture
  • History and Culture of Boston
  • TOEFL Preparation

Discover American Excursions - Wednesday afternoons
The Tufts English Language Programs are innovative in the way they combine classroom material with real-life experience. Tufts instructors will accompany you on Discover America excursions, which bring you to important American institutions like an active court room, historical museums, and a stroll down Boston's Freedom Trail. Through these experiences, you will acquire an in-depth knowledge of American culture and institutions.

Each 6-week student is required to participate in two Discover America excursions. 4-week students are required to participate in one Discover America excursion.
