Early Childhood Education

PLEASE NOTE: We are no longer accepting applications for the Early Childhood Education MAT, and will admit no new MAT students into the teacher preparation program for enrollment in the fall semester of 2017.

Overview

With a distinctive focus on equity in education, Eliot-Pearson's Early Childhood Education programs prepare students for work with young children in urban education settings. Given this focus and through coursework as well as direct work with children, the ECE programs help students to develop deep understanding of the unique learning needs of young children from socioculturally diverse family backgrounds, including dual language learners.

In addition, the programs provide opportunities to pursue a variety of early childhood careers and special interests, including careers in applied research and policy-making and interests in literacy, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, inclusive education, second language acquisition, family-school relationships, culture and diversity, the arts, early childhood policy, and classroom discourse.
