Many TLC mentors are participants in the Federal Work Study program; others are volunteers. They come from diverse backgrounds and have varied interests and academic majors. All, however, are dedicated to children and their welfare.  There are now 90 graduate and undergraduate students in the Tufts Literacy Corps. They are providing one-on-one tutoring for 87 children in Medford and Somerville and are working with an additional 300 children through homework centers, classrooms and an after school drama club.
