Library and Children Resources

Tisch Library:
Location: Tufts University, Medford Campus

Tisch is Tufts' main library, with a user-friendly integrated information system allowing quick access to an extensive collection of books, journals, electronic resources as well as free access to ERIC, PsycInfo and numerous other subject-specific databases. Tisch Library belongs to the Boston Library Consortium, allowing access to 19 regional academic and public libraries. Requests for books or articles which are unavailable at Tufts may be made through ILLiad, at https://illiad.library.tufts.edu/illiad. Child development resources can be found on the Tisch Library website, at http://www.library.tufts.edu/tisch/subject/childdev.htm. Medford Public Library
Location: 111 High Street, Medford, MA 02155

The Medford Public Library contains an area set aside for visits by classes and individuals between 2 and 12 years of age. Some literature for parents is available, but this library is filled with books and materials mainly for children's use. Students interested in children's literature may find this library useful for examining the spectrum of children's books.

Kriske Educational Library at Lesley College
Location: 29 Everett Street, Cambridge, MA 02138

The second floor of the Lesley College Library has an abundance of traditional educational kits for kindergarten through eighth grade. Materials include records, posters, displays, and kits for special needs children, along with children's books and tapes. The card catalog is organized by topic for easy curriculum unit planning.

Wheelock College Library
Location: 132 Riverway, Boston, MA 02215

Library resources emphasize early childhood education ages 0-8, including Nursery School, Elementary School, Special Education Hospital and Day Care Settings. Borrowing of both the children's and adult's collection is limited to students and faculty in the Fenway Library Consortium.

Monroe C. Gutman Library
Location: Harvard Graduate School of Education, Appian Way, Cambridge, MA 02138

Collection: education, especially elementary and secondary education in the U.S. and in other English-speaking countries; subject areas related to education, such as urban problems, psychology, sociology; the ERIC collection of over 80,000 documents on microfiche; a non-circulating test collection. The Children's Museum
Location: 300 Congress Street, Museum Wharf, Boston, MA 02215

The museum's exhibit center is participation oriented. Permanent exhibits include Playspace, Small Science, Factory, Living Things, What if you couldn't...?, and Computers. Special exhibits change periodically and include workshops, mime, juggling, puppet shows, and music performances. The resource center has materials pertaining to exhibit areas for teachers and parents. Materials may be borrowed by museum members with borrowing privileges. Also at the Children's Museum are a children's book and toy store and a Recycle department with numerous items from various industries.
