Programs Leading to Licensure

Teacher Licensure at the Initial level is available to Tufts undergraduates through the Department of Child Development. Massachusetts regulations require a two-stage process for obtaining teacher licensure: (1) Initial and (2) Professional. The Department sponsors or co-sponsors two teacher licensure programs for undergraduates:

• Initial Early Childhood Teacher Licensure Program (Pre-K through 3rd Grade) and (with the Education Department)
• Initial Elementary Teacher Licensure Program (Grades 1 through 6)*

Undergraduates can work toward either Initial Licensure. Both are valid for five years of employment in the public schools of Massachusetts.
