Master's Program Information

Concentration in Cognitive Development

The M.A. concentration in Cognitive Development is intended to prepare students to: continue their studies beyond the M.A. in the field of cognitive development; participate in applied fields where cognitive development is an appropriate background; and acquire a set of techniques and skills that will contribute to their development as researchers and/or practitioners.

The course requirements for the M.A. concentration in Cognitive Development are as follows:

  1. CD 151 Advanced Intellectual Development
  2. Developmental Psychology course outside field of cognitive development
    (e.g., personal-social development, physiological development, etc.)
  3. CD 142 Problems of Research: Methods and Design
  4. CD 144 Qualitative and Ethnographic Methods
    *CD 247 Program Evaluation may count as a Research Methods course, if the student's interests are in social policy.
  5. Three Concentration Electives
  6. Two Open Electives (CD 140 Statistics required for M.A. Thesis)
  7. Internship or Thesis related to cognitive development
