The English Society at Tufts University was organized and founded in the Spring of 1998 by request of the faculty and students from the English Department. The Society intends to become the premier organization on campus for the furthering of the Department and the major or minor in English, to create and allow access to student, alumni, and faculty resources, and to provide opportunities for social outreach.
Planned activities for this year and beyond include: the distribution of semesterly Departmental Course Evaluations, organization of alumni events and guest speakers (including authors, journalists, poets, and graduates of the Tufts English major), publication of a monthly newsletter containing announcements, student/alumni/faculty profiles, and promotional information, the planning of poetry readings and lectures on and around campus, participation in community outreach programs in greater Boston and the Medford/Somerville public schools, and many others. We encourage the participation of all students, regardless of major, and look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
