Undergraduate Offerings
Undergraduates can complete requirements for Massachusetts initial
licensure as an elementary teacher (grades 1-6) and as an art
teacher (grades Pre-K-8 and 5-12). The elementary licensure
program is a Tufts joint program with the Departments of Education
and Child Development. The art education licensure programs are a
collaboration between Tufts University and The School of the
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Students are encouraged to enroll in
ED 001: School & Society and/or ED 99: Field Experience
in Education prior to entering the teacher licensure program.
Admission to either program is contingent on evidence of
competence in oral and written English, the attainment and
maintenance of at least a 3.0 grade point average in the
discipline, and the feasibility of completing the academic and
professional courses required for Massachusetts licensure.
Undergraduates who are interested in undertaking the elementary or
visual art licensure programs should meet with their program
advisor during their sophomore year to ensure that all
requirements for subject matter knowledge, as well as education
courses, are completed. Information for
