Student Profiles

Kate Crosby, M.A.T. 2006 (Middle and High School), Tufts University

Hometown: Pembroke, MA
Undergraduate Degree:
B.A. English

Before enrolling at Tufts, I worked as the Art Director at a Boys and Girls Club. Prior to that, I spent several years teaching eighth grade language arts and coaching high school track and field in a suburb west of Boston. I had taken the MTEL test in 1998 and received provisional licensure; however, I had never had the chance to study the craft of teaching. Nor had I had the opportunity to observe other teachers in action.

I made the decision to enroll at Tufts after deciding to pursue a career as a high school English teacher. The Tufts MAT program offered courses in both the education and English departments. I looked forward to simultaneously deepening my understanding of my subject matter and my craft. I am currently student teaching in an eleventh grade American Literature class and appreciate the chance to collaborate with a mentor teacher. I am eager to have my own classroom this fall.
