Adam Carberry

Degrees: M.S. Chemistry, Tufts University, B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Tufts University

After receiving a B.S. in Material Science Engineering from Alfred University in 2002, I decided to work toward obtaining a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Tufts University. My intention was to become a professor to improve higher education. In 2005, I earned an M.S. in Chemistry from Tufts University, while transitioning to the Tufts Math, Science, Technology, and Engineering (MSTE) Education program. Now back to working in the field of engineering, I am currently a student at the Tufts University Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO). While working toward a Ph.D. in Engineering Education, I am also the program manager for the Student Teacher Outreach Mentorship Program (STOMP).

Research Interests: My research is focused on the analysis of engineering service-learning programs at the university level. I am currently investigating if learning engineering through service-learning improves student engineering design self-efficacy, perceptions of engineering, and understandings of engineering. Each construct is being measured using new tools specifically developed for this project. The study population will include three service-learning programs: Tufts STOMP, Tufts Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and Purdue Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS).
