Master of Arts in Science Education
The Department of Education
of Tufts University offers a graduate program aimed at in-service K-8 teachers
who desire further education in science and the pedagogy of science at the
elementary and middle school levels.
The Master of Arts in
Science Education program is a strand of the graduate program in Mathematics,
Science, Technology, and Engineering education and is aimed at students whose
primary interest lies in classroom instruction. The program is designed for
currently practicing K-8 classroom teachers with a minimum of two years teaching
experience and with Initial Teacher Licensure at Pre-K-2, 1-6 levels, or 5-8
level in math/sciences. The program is of particular interest to those teachers
who are seeking a graduate degree to fulfill requirements for Massachusetts
Professional Licensure as they continue to teach.

2 Undergraduate Science Courses
The specific courses to be taken as well as any supplemental
assignments will be negotiated individually with the candidate.
These two courses will be standard course offerings by Tufts
science departments and supplemented with pedagogically oriented
assignments in consultation with Department of Education
faculty. Since these are undergraduate courses, credit toward
the graduate degree will only be awarded to those students with
a grade of B+ or higher.
