Welcome message from program director

Our program combines the strengths of three institutions, Tufts University, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (MFA). We prepare art educators who cultivate their identities and practices as artists, researchers and teachers in our global society.

Our students take classes in education and art education classes, taught by faculty at Tufts, and in studio art by faculty at the SMFA. The program combines student teaching in a Boston area PK-12 school with the unique opportunity to assist in children's art classes at the MFA. This enables students to experience art education in both school and museum settings.

With an interdisciplinary perspective, we explore all art making and works of art through a cultural, historical and socio-political contextual lens. We emphasize a highly collaborative environment that fosters deep thinking and reflection around issues of teaching and learning.

Thank you for your interest, and please feel free to contact me with any questions.
