Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education
Students in STEM Education learn about and conduct their own research on learning and teaching in math, science, and engineering. The program involves collaborations with Tufts departments of Child Development, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics & Astronomy, as well as the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach.
Welcome message from program director
We're part of a relatively new and still growing movement in academia:
research on learning and instruction in mathematics, the sciences, and
engineering with strong ties to those disciplines themselves. In forming those
ties we have an advantage, working in a department of Education rather
than a school: it's easy for us to collaborate with other departments, in math,
science, and engineering, and we do extensively, in projects, programs, and
positions. Our work addresses what it means to engage in these disciplines, from
children's nascent interests and ideas through university students' maturing
knowledge and practices.
