Prof. Marianne Wiser, from Clark University's Department of Psychology, spoke at the MSTE Proseminar: "Five C's in numerical development: Counting, Conservation, Counting to Compare, and Characters."
Held September 27, 2007

In her talk, Prof. Wiser present three studies through which she is trying to add to our understanding of how children's understanding of counting and number develops. She challenges the characterization of three-year-olds as "having the cardinality principle;" and focuses on children's understanding of number as a summary representation of a set. An important focus of her studies are children's number notations and how they reveal their mental representations about number.
