Tufts-SMFA Art Education
Festival Reception
Wednesday, May 4, 2011, 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.
The Tufts-SMFA ART EDUCATION FESTIVAL
was a huge success from May 2-6, 2011. The festival was comprised of 3 components:
- Art Exhibit of work by K-12 school students produced under
the guidance of their student teachers from our Tufts-SMFA
MAT Art Education program.

- Gallery Talks for three days by each Tufts-SMFA student-teaching-intern
featuring her/his reflections on teaching, learning and
curriculum understandings & questions.

- Reception May 4, 2011, 4:00-7:00 to honor the work of the
Tufts-SMFA MAT student teachers, their cooperating art teachers,
university supervisors and faculty members. Announcements and
recognitions start at 4:30.
Where is the Art Education Festival?
Mission Hill Building of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston at 160 Saint Alphonsus Street, Roxbury Crossing, MA 02120.
Our objectives included:
- Displaying the results of our work as artist-teachers
in the setting of our scholarly and art making community.
- Advancing the discourse in art education about what it means
to be an emerging art teacher in the context of:
- Our multicultural society and artworlds.
- Postmodernism’s influence on art making.
- The role of visual culture in the life of
our PK-12 art students.
- The daily realities of developing, designing,
implementing and evaluating curriculum in the PK-12
public school classroom.
