Teaching as Civic Engagement Conference
Held October 20, 2007

Supported by: Tufts University Department of Education, Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

Alumni, current MAT students, cooperating teachers and faculty participated in the 2nd Annual Teaching as Civic Engagement Conference. Workshops about science, literacy, service learning, assessment, teacher collegiality and the educating of young Black and Latino males were presented. Excellent information about effective professional practices was shared. Recent graduates and faculty had the opportunity to reconnect. Our returning Keynote Speaker, Provost Jamshed Bharucha, discussed the implications of implicit and explicit knowledge and how culture is a learned concept. He set his remarks with the context of several studies on brain research. Thank you to everyone who attended. We are committed to continuing this tradition and are looking ahead to next year's event.
