Tufts Economics Society

The Economics Society has been proud to provide you with some great events this semester! Look forward to hearing more about events for the Fall 2009 semester on the Calendar page soon. Please feel free to make suggestions or requests by visiting the Contact Us page. Check out the new Coffeehouse page.

Welcome Back to the Hill!!

As the 09-10 school year opens, we would like to welcome all the members of the Class of 2013 to Tufts!

For everyone else, welcome back to the hill--we hope you all enjoyed your summer break. We are excited to offer an assortment of programming this semester that is aimed at getting involved and learning more about economics and how we apply it to everyday situations. Be sure to watch the calendar to learn about all our upcoming events.

We are very excited about some of the new programs that we are starting this year, and we are also responding to feedback from previous years by adding ways for members to get involved.

What do you want to talk about at our next Coffeehouse?
Health Care Reform
Immigration
Minimum Wage Laws
Government Spending and the Economy

Here is a list of ways for Economics Society members to get involved:

Community Service Mentor
Description: The community service volunteers will be visiting a local Boys and Girls Club to teach financial literacy and serve as mentors for mostly low-income kids. If you are interesting in getting involved in the community and seeing your economics background make a difference, this is a great new opportunity!
Commitment: 1 hour per week- Wednesdays from 5-6 PM
Contact: Email Will for more information.

Marketing Positions
All marketing positions are a great for people with skills or interests in building an advertising campaign. Because these are new positions, there will be a lot of room for associates to innovate. There will be little regular commitment required for these positions, but the work will be based on preparing for events that the Economics Society hosts (between 1-2 events per month). Here are the specific positions, though these roles are not set in stone yet:
-Associate, Digital Media: Perfect for people who want to experiment with advertising on Facebook and other internet media.
-Associate, Print Media: We are looking for people who have creative ideas about how to effectively use fliers and other print ads to attract people to events.
-Associate, Design: We are looking for people with an interest or talent in designing visually appealing advertisements.

Coffee House Moderator
Decide on topics for upcoming coffee houses, as well as moderate the meetings. These meetings are the primary way for us to discuss economics on campus, and the range of topics is really unlimited. Help to direct the economic focus on campus.

Please contact us and let us know what we can do for you. Enjoy the first few weeks of the fall, and we can't wait to see you all soon!
