Overview

The Department of Economics offers both master's and Ph.D. programs. These programs offer individually tailored degrees, with personal input from faculty members. Students completing a master's degree are expected to have a thorough understanding of fundamental economic concepts, advanced economic modeling, and rigorous econometric evaluation of economic data. Students completing a master's thesis are additionally expected to demonstrate an ability to conceive and execute independent research under the guidance of a thesis committee. Successful doctoral students will meet the expectations of successful mater's student but also demonstrate a depth of knowledge in at least two specialized fields and an ability to do independent research that informs theory and/or policy with possible publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
