Prof. Ioannides to Present Research
Prof. Yannis Ioannides presented a paper on "Ekistics, Central Place
Theory, Regional Science, and Modern Urban Economics: Trends of
Interplay among Neighbors," at the an international workshop, titled
"Space and Progress: Ekistics and the Global Context of Post--World
War II Urbanization and Architecture" devoted to the the work and
ideas of architect and urban planner Konstantinos A. Doxiadis,
Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece, December 1-2, 2006.

Prof. Tan to Present Research
Prof. Chih Ming Tan will present his paper (joint with Prof. Andros Kourtellos (University of Cyprus) and Dr. Xiaobo Zhang (IFPRI))
entitled, "Is the Relationship between Aid and Growth Nonlinear?" at
the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in
Washington, D.C., on November 3, 2006.

Prof. Shimshack Presents Research
Prof. Jay P. Shimshack presented his work entitled "Mandatory
Information Disclosure and Environmental Performance in the
Electricity Industry" (joint with Magali Delmas and Maria Montes) at
Yale University on September 27, at Harvard University on October
18, and at Harvard's Center for Business and Government on October
19. He will also present the paper at UC Santa Barbara and the
University of Maryland in November.

Prof. Enrico Spolaore is presenting his research on the diffusion of
development at Brown University, New York University, and at an
international conference in Paris (Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris III).

Prof. Spolaore Appointed to National Bureau of Economic Research's
Program on Political Economy
Prof. Enrico Spolaore has been appointed to the National Bureau of
Economic Research's Program on Political Economy, effective
September 2006. This recently-formed NBER program focuses on the
interaction between economic policies and outcomes and political
institutions broadly defined, including the evolution of legal and
administrative institutions, social interactions, international
trade, and international relations.

in Vienna, Austria
Prof. Chih Ming Tan presented his paper (joint with Prof. Steven Durlauf, University of Wisconsin, and Prof. Andros Kourtellos,
University of Cyprus) entitled "God is in the Details: A
Reexamination of the Role of Religion in Economic Growth" at the
Econometric Society European Meetings (ESEM) in Vienna, Austria, on
August 24, 2006.

Announcement: Part-Time Faculty Position in Health Economics
The Department anticipates an opening for a part-time lecturer to
teach a class on the Economics of Health during the Spring 2007
term. An advanced degree in economics (or substantial progress
toward a Ph.D. in economics) and the potential for excellence in
teaching are required. College-level teaching experience is
preferred.
The instructor is responsible for all lectures, exams, and grading.
Spring 2007 classes begin Thursday, January 18 and the final exam
period ends on Friday, May 11. The screening of applications will
begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Economics seeks to fill a full-time faculty
position at the Assistant Professor level starting in September
2007. The Department is particularly interested in candidates with
research interests in Behavioral Economics or
Macroeconomics/Monetary Economics but encourages qualified
candidates conducting research in other areas to apply. Candidates
should expect to receive their Ph.D. prior to the start of the
appointment. Qualified candidates will possess potential for
significant research accomplishment and excellence in teaching.
