Professor Garman joined the faculty of Tufts as an Assistant Professor in 1984, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1991. His research interests center on applications of econometrics, and he has worked on topics such as the determinants of presidential popularity, wage-price flexibility in U.S. industries, and the impact of college attendance on earnings. His teaching interests include the economics of higher education and the determinants of student performance. His published work has appeared in the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of Industrial Economics, Industrial Relations, the Southern Economic Journal, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the American Economic Review. Professor Garman served as chair of the Department of Economics from 1995 - 2002, and as a member of the AS&E Executive Committee from 2002 - 2005. In his other life, he is a student of the history of blues music.
