Prior to coming to Tufts, Dr. Bacow was the chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the institute's two most senior academic officers. A member of the MIT faculty since 1977, Dr. Bacow was the Lee and Geraldine Martin Professor of Environmental Studies. He served as chair of the MIT faculty and the MIT Council on the Environment. Dr. Bacow also played an instrumental role in the establishment of the Cambridge-MIT Institute, an innovative partnership between Cambridge University and MIT. His research focuses on environmental policy and regulation and on non-adjudicative approaches to the resolution of environmental disputes. He is the author of four books and numerous articles and has lectured extensively in the United States and abroad.
