Officers

  • Alex Bedig

Hailing from the sunny Happy Valley of California's Eastern San Francisco Bay Area, Alex Bedig is an Engineering Science and Geology major in the Class of 2008. Although it was concern for the purity of future sushi meats that initially drew Alex to environmental activism, he has since developed an interest in the field of alternative energy sources, a path he intends to follow after graduation. Aside from working with ECO, Alex has been involved with the CALPIRG organization Environment California, with which he spent a summer as a field manager for the Berkeley office's fundraising efforts. In his spare time, Alex enjoys cooking with whatever's around and playing for the Tufts Men's Soccer team.

  • Carrie Jones

Carrie is a senior majoring in Biology and Environmental Studies. She hails from Farmington, CT and has been interested in the natural world since a young age, exploring tide pools with her Aunt in Oregon and camping and hiking with her family in the Northeast. In the summer of 2006, she worked with NYC youth at the Manice Education Center in Florida, MA to teach them leadership skills, outdoor skills and about how to be environmentally conscious. She hopes to continue raising awareness in youth in order to impress upon them the importance of environmental care in their lives. In the Spring of 2007 she studied in Australia on the SIT program "Sustainability and the Environment," where she conducted an independent research project relating a community's affect on individuals' sense of place. She is interested in sustainable building practices, permaculture, and the local foods movement. Carrie enjoys singing, reading, traveling and exploring.

I have a deep fascination with how our society works and what to do to improve it for future generations. The foundation of it all is the environment. I'm especially interested in how, where, and from whom we get our food, transportation systems, and green buildings. I'll be abroad in Costa Rica during the spring semester of 2008 studying sustainable development, and I hope to come back with a sense of what that means for nations that are already "developed."
