Dance Program: Advanced Dancers

The Tufts Dance Program offers a non-conservatory, liberal arts approach to studio and other dance courses. The University attracts many students with advanced training whose future professional goals are in other fields and who wish to continue their dance experience in a less intense way. The Dance Program is well situated to serve these advanced students through such courses as Dance Ensemble (repeatable), Advanced Technique (repeatable), and Intermediate ballet (non-pointe), These are taught by the well-known choreographer/teacher, Daniel McCusker, who offers a rigorous ballet-inflected modern technique (supplemented with creative work). Advanced students easily transition into this training which is compatible with our current and past students' earlier dance experiences.

Experienced dance students are encouraged to explore one or more of our non-western studio forms and to learn the craft of choreography in Dance Movement and Creative Process and (or) in Studies in Dance Composition (see others in course listings). Other experiences for advanced dancers are performing for Dance Program events outside of the curricular structure, teaching for Jumbodance, volunteering in the community, and joining an extra-curricular group.
