Macintosh Vector Visualizer®

The Visualizer® is a Java application which requires a Java Runtime environment in order to run.
This environment is automatically available on MacOSX but must be installed for MacOS 9. Once the Java environment
is installed you can install the Visualizer®.

Installation Instructions for Mac OS X series:

Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger):
Download the following archive and extract it to your hard drive: VisualizerOSX2006.zip.
Open the file: VisualizerMac/VisualizerTutorial/_StartTutorial using Safari.

Mac OS X ( prior to 10.4 ):
Download VisualizerOSX2006.zip.
For older OSX releases you may need to use Stuffit Expander to extract the contents of this file.
If you do not have Stuffit Expander it can be downloaded for free from Allume Systems.

Installation Instructions for Mac OS 9 series:
Download the Java environment called MrJ from the Apple site.
Follow the instructions on that site for installation of MRJ on your current OS.

Download the Visualizer Installer: VisualizerMac.hqx.
Double-click on the installer and accept all defaults.

Using Visualizer:
The Vector Tutorial
The folder VisualizerMac/VisualizerTutorial/ contains a collection of files that run in Safari or Internet Explorer as in interactive tutorial. To start the tutorial start the browser and open the file: _startTutorial.html. If you wish to use Internet Explorer it can be obtained as a free download.

Run Visualizer as an Application:
The files in folder VectorILD comprise an Interactive Lecture Demo about vectors.
To run these under Mac OS X simply double click on the .Vis files. There are 2 MS word files in the folder as well, one for the student and one for the presenter. These are ILD.VectorIntroComp(pred).2-01 (for student predictions) and ILD.VectorIntroComp.PN.2-01 (notes for the presenter).
To run Visualizer as a stand-alone application on the Mac OS 9 double click on the application "VisApp" in the VectorILD folder. Remember, you need MrJ2.0 or newer installed on your machine (OS 9 only) in order for this Java application to run.
You can also start by double clicking one of the .Vis files found in the folder VectorILD or Visualizer Tutorial. Double click on each of the files in succession to carry out the interactive lecture demo.
If a .Vis file does not start up this way try dropping it on the "Make Visualizer Doc" converter located in the VectorILD folder and then double click on it.
