Our Mission

Tufts Chinese Students Association is one of the largest cultural organizations on the Tufts campus. We welcome everyone and anyone, you don't have to be Chinese or from Tufts. Our organization hopes to be a link for students to get to know each other and experience Chinese culture at the same time.

Constitution

Article I
Name: The name of this organization is the “Chinese Students Association” (CSA).

Article II
Purpose: The primary purpose of this organization is to broaden the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, language and history. These goals shall be achieved through various club-sponsored activities including, but not limited to, social events, guest speakers, and culture shows.

Article III
Membership: Membership shall be limited to Tufts University students. Faculty, staff, spouses and other students may be associate members. Only active members may hold office positions or vote on matters concerning the Chinese Students Association. To achieve and maintain an active member status, a Tufts University student must attend fifty percent of general meetins and organization-sponsored events. Members are free to leave or disassociate without fear of retribution or harassment.

Article IV
Discrimination: This organization, including all of its members, will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, religion, creed, color, gender, age, nationality, or disability.

Article V
Finance: There shall be no fees assessed. The organization is funded by the Tufts Community Union (TCU) Senate. In the case that there are insufficient funds as allocated by the TCU Senate, the organization elected officers will vote on methods of fund-raising. Fund-raising events may be conducted as agreed upon and under authorization by the Tufts University Office of Student Activities. This is a non-profit and non-commercial organization.

Article VI
Officers:
Section 1: The officers shall be: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Publicity Chair, Historian, and Freshman Representative. All officers must attend all officer meetings and can only miss general meetings pending a valid excuse.

Section 2: The President is responsible for: overseeing all club events, presiding at all club events and meetings, drafting an agenda for each club meeting, organizing executive board meetings, and representing the club at all times. The president should likewise monitor the activities of all officers and be aware of all financial proceedings of the club.

Section 3: The Vice President is responsible for: contacting vendors, logistics programming, and assisting the president in all club-sponsored events and meetings. The Vice President must attend all club events.

Section 4: The Treasurer is responsible for handling the club’s budget. The treasurer must submit all forms to the treasury office in a timely manner.

Section 5: The Secretary is responsible for keeping a record of members and their attendance, and keeping minutes of all meetings.

Section 6: The Historian is responsible for photographing at club events, updating the CSA website, and keeping up a scrapbook.

Section 7: The Freshman Representative is responsible for being a liaison between CSA and the freshmen class.

Section 8: Replacement Policy: The elected officers will nominate and appoint replacement officers for vacant spots. Should the President position be vacant, the Vice President is given the first right to that position. Should he/she decide not to take it, then the position opens up for the other officers. If no officer runs for the position, then it will be open for officers to nominate any non-officer members of the club. The same hierarchy applies to the Vice President position.

Article VII
Elections:
Section 1: Elections of new officers take place at the end of the Spring semester and terms last for one year.

Section 2: Any active club member can be nominated for any office position excluding the Presidential position. Only those active members that have previously served on the executive board are eligible to run for the Presidential position.

Section 3: Election Procedure: Nominations will be taken for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Publicity Chair, and Historian during the last general interest meeting of the academic year. Elections will take place at a later date specified by the executive board.

Section 4: Only active members can vote for the positions defined in Article VII, Section 3.

Section 5: Election into office requires a majority vote. In the case of a tie, the voting population will vote again taking only those candidates involved in the tie into consideration.

Section 6: Nominations will be taken for the position of Freshmen Representative at the first general interest meeting of the academic year. Elections will take place the following general interest meeting.

Section 7: Only members of the freshman class can vote for the Freshman Representative.

Section 8: Election into office requires a majority vote. In the case of a tie, the voting population will vote again taking only those candidates involved in the tie into consideration.

Article VIII
Impeachment Procedure:
Section 1: If an officer is not performing his/her said duties, the President and Vice-President will pass a resolution to impeach the officer. The officer then has three weeks from that date to improve his/her status. At the end of the three weeks, the president and vice-president will elect to proceed with the impeachment or annul it.

Section 2: If the President or Vice President is not performing his/her duties, the executive board will pass a resolution to impeach. He/she then has three weeks to improve his/her status. At the end of three weeks, the officers will elect to sign the resolution or annul it.


Article IX
Amendments: Amendments to this Constitution may be suggested by any member of this organization. All proposed amendments must be presented to the President in writing. The amendment will be reviewed by the executive board at the next E-board meeting. An amendment will pass if 2/3 of the organization’s officers vote in favor and most importantly, all amendments must be approved by the TCUJ before going into effect.
