The south saddle of Eros

The south saddle of Eros

. This mosaic of four images, photographed on 26 September 2000, was taken as the NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft looked down on the saddle region of the asteroid 433 Eros. A broad, curved depression stretches vertically across the image, as if scooped out by a cosmic sculptor. A boulder-rich area is seen in the lower right.
